Postpress services

Almost all printing processes include post-press.

Cutting is the most common of all post-press processes. It is used to cut printed sheets of paper to the desired product or format, or to prepare for other processes. Cutting is often confused with die-cutting, but the first feature is that everything is cropped at an angle of 90 degrees, without the possibility of a shape cut.
In the printing production cutting is mainly performed on a guillotine cutter and on a three-knife trimmer, which is used to trim a multi-page product.

Folding is a process of bending of paper products. Most often it’s used for the production of leaflets and multi-page products. Folding can be performed manually and by a machine.
There are two types of bending on the folding equipment: the buckle folding – the sheet is bent in the buckle plate, and the blade folding – the sheet is bent with the help of a special blade/knife. The last folding method can be in particular preceded by pre-scoring or perforation.

Die-cutting is the process that provides the shaped cutting of products out of the sheet and perforation. The production of packaging, most label products and some variants of advertising and multi-page products wouldn’t be complete without this process.

Embossing and foiling are processes with the help of which an image is embossed on paper with the possibility of applying metallized foil (foiling). Blind embossing is the embossing without the foil.
The foiling is often performed on packaging, books, diplomas, greeting cards, etc.

Perforation is the process with the help of which the tear line is applied or holes are made. It can be applied manually and by using perforation, folding or die-cutting equipment.

Lamination is the process of applying the polyethylene foil on paper for protection and/or for better appearance of products. It is applied with the help of laminator.
Roll lamination is often used in medium and high print runs.
Sometimes instead of lamination the image is covered with full UV coating.

Thread sewing is the process which is used for book sewing. After, the book is produced in hardcover. It is produced on the thread sewing equipment. The maximum format for our equipment is 320*270 and the minimum is А6. Also, it is possible to sew books of any size manually.

Glueing is the process of gluing of the printing products.
It is used for gluing packets, boxes etc.

Grommets installation is the installation of elements for covering the round holes with metal edgings. It is used to improve the hole strength and the good appearance.

Collating is the process of gathering of individual sheets prior to their binding. It can be performed manually and with the help of specialized collating equipment.

Staple binding is the stapling of a multi-page printed product with a metal staple. It is performed on a wire-stitching machine or with the help of stapler or ВШРА line. Simple, cheap and reliable way to bind multi-page products.

Sticking of multi-page products means gluing of multi-page products. It’s performed manually and on the adhesive binder.
We glue books, brochures, catalogues on a semi-automatic binder.
Detachable notepads and writing blocks are manually glued by pasting the spine while the product is under the lying press.
Gluing is the least reliable of all types of binding of multi-page products.

The production of hardcover is a specific sequential order of processes in order to produce the multi-page products bound with the help of hardcover.
The first process of manufacturing of the hardcover is gluing an endpaper to the first and last paper blocks.
Next comes the collating of blocks into a whole book which is performed on the automated collating machine.
The next process is the thread book sewing. This process is mainly performed on the automated thread book sewing machines.
The next operation is pasting the spine of the gathered book which is performed on the automated line.
Compressing the block before installing it in the paperboard is performed to strengthen the book block.
Then the three side cutting of the finished internal book block is done to its desired size.
Previously, before inserting the block, an endmark and a ribbon and other binding elements can be installed by gluing.
Manufacturing of the hardcover is the process in which the printed sheet is glued together with the cardboard paper.
Pasting the book block into the hardcover is done by gluing the endpaper to the inner side of the hardcover. Compressing of the finished book after installing the block is necessary to provide better flatness of the finished product.

Stitching with a metal spring is used for stitching multi-page products (books, brochures, catalogues, notepads, menus, etc.), as well as flip and quarterly calendars.
The metal spring can be of different colours (we use black and white).
There can also be different diameters of the metal spring: 6.3 mm, 7.9 mm, 9.5 mm, 11.1 mm, 12.3 mm, 14.1 mm – standard with a step of 1:3. There are also large diameters, but according to the standard with a step of 1:2.
Metal spring pressing is performed on the pre-perforated sheets with round or square holes (on a client’s request).

Stitching with metal chrome rings is used for stitching multi-page products (catalogues, menus, etc.).
It adds additional elegance to the product.
There are different diameters of rings: 14 mm, 19 mm, 25 mm, 32 mm, 38 mm, 51 mm, 60 mm and 76 mm.
Rings are inserted on pre-perforated sheets with round holes.
Also, the rings are simply removed and installed back with the possibility of replacing sheets of multi-page products.

Stitching with screw posts is mainly used for making menus, especially in hardcover. There are various lengths of screw posts for different thickness of products. Also, they have different chromaticity.
Screw posts are inserted on the pre-perforated sheets with round holes.
Also, the screw posts are simply removed and installed back with the possibility of replacing sheets of multi-page products.

Installation of metal corners is needed for additional protection of the cover of the multi-page product.
Also, it adds additional elegance to the product.

Retrofit of products (calendars, packets, packaging, etc.). It is possible to retrofit the printing products with other elements by gluing in or stitching.

Other post-processing options are possible, however, they are not listed here. This can be discussed individually with a technologist or a designer.
